The Nick Wilson Show - Page 2

The Hornets return to practice tonight for the first time since they lost last Thursday at home, to start the All-Star break. The 8-day layoff came at the perfect time for the Hornets, as they lost 9 of their last 10 games before the break and currently sit at 29-31. 9th place in the Eastern Conference. This was a team that we believed had turned the corner earlier this season after marquee wins at Philadelphia, and at home against the Lakers. Since then, injuries have torn the roster apart, for a team that lacked little front-court depth as it is. Charlotte has 22 games remaining in the regular season, with 13 at the Spectrum Center, and 9 on the road. Earlier today, Hornets head coach, James Borrego joined the Nick Wilson Show, to express his message to his team, as they try to work their way back into position to host a Play-In game in April:

There's no question that Carolina needs to upgrade the quarterback and offensive line positions if they want to be able to compete for the playoffs in 2022, but with limited cap and draft capital, it's hard to envision that happening right now. One way they could potentially do that would be by trading away Christian McCaffrey, less than two years after signing him to a historic contract. since the contract, CMC has missed more games than he has played, and that has really strung this franchise, both on the field, and off. Panthers GM Scott Fitterer said shortly after the season concluded that he's open to taking calls that could move McCaffrey if it could benefit the team. The issue is going to be finding a trade partner willing to work with the Panthers, as his injuries have derailed his trade value. Mike Ginnitti, from Spotrac, was on the Nick Wilson show earlier today, outlining his proposal to trade McCaffrey to the Buffalo Bills, an organization with many ties to the Panthers. In the deal, Carolina only receives back a third round, and a fifth-round pick, while also freeing up over $9 million dollars in salary-cap space. Here's what Ginnitti had to say about the Bills being a potential trade partner this off-season:

The 2021-22 college basketball season tipped off last night and was highlighted by the Duke-Kentucky matchup in Madison Square Garden, where the Blue Devils topped the Wildcats 79-71 in a highly contested battle between two blue bloods of the sport. Earlier today, DeShaun Tate, the host of Tate's Take podcast joined Wilson & Norfleet to tell you why the Blue Devils have the potential to be a national title contender, in what will be Coach K's final Duke squad. His reasoning for that is the play of freshmen Paolo Banchero and Trevor Keels saying: "It makes me feel like a national championship is on the way for Duke if I'm being. It just has that feel to it. It has that vibe. It has that energy"

With every day Nick Wilson is filling in on Mix 107.9, we're finding more about the mercurial host. In fact, we're finding out more than we wanted to know about the big fella.

I'm always looking to learn things, both personally and professionally.  I try to keep an open mind because you never know what might unlock a great lesson or opportunity.

LaMelo Ball is going to be great. Write it down in ink, get tattoos and put all your money into his stock.  I knew that before he joined Stan Norfleet and I on Thursday after it was announced he had won the NBA Rookie of the Year award.

Do you feel lucky, Hornets fans? Well…do ya? The NBA Draft Lottery is coming up on Tuesday, June 22nd and optimism for Charlotte Hornets basketball is surging.

"Sean Ryan (Panthers Quarterback Coach) even was asked about rebuilding Sam Darnold as if he was Anakin at the end of Episode 3, soon-to-be Darth Vader."

Hornets Center Bismack Biyombo joined Nick Wilson and Stan Norfleet on Friday to talk about his friendship with LaMelo Ball, when he knew the Hornets rookie was special and why the Hornets were blown out by Indiana in their NBA Play-In tournament appearance.

Dueling Mocks Version 2.0 drops with just over three weeks of this year’s NFL Draft. This week we had planned to focus on a different area of the draft but the Panthers threw us a curve ball by trading for Jets starting quarterback Sam Darnold. So this week’s Dueling Mock will feature Nick & Will’s […]

8. Carolina Panthers Will: Rashawn Slater, OL, Northwestern: With all of the consensus top four quarterbacks off the board, Carolina goes its next biggest need, a franchise-changing offensive lineman. Slater brings in the flexibility that Scott Fitterer & Matt Rhule seem to crave in their first offseason working together, and finally gives the Panthers some stability with their biggest question mark entering the offseason. While this pick could very well be Mac Jones, I’m a believer in Joe Person of The Athletic’s latest report which states the Panthers’ lack of infatuation with the QB talent beyond Lawrence & Wilson. Nick: Justin Fields, QB, Ohio State: This may be wishful thinking but unless a trade up happens ahead of Carolina, I think there is a decent chance Trey Lance, Justin Fields or both are there at 8. BEST POSSIBLE SCENARIO. The over analysis on Justin Fields around the NFL has reached embarrassing levels. He checks every physical box you want and has some Cam Newton to his game.

The NFL has seen a lot of players, primarily big-name quarterbacks, expressing their displeasure with their respective front offices this offseason, leading to some questioning if this will become a long-term trend in the NFL similar to the NBA. Earlier today, Nick Wilson sat down with former NFL Vice President of Player Personnel Tony Softli […]
