Mike Decourcy Joins Mac & Bone Ahead of 2025 Final Four

The 2025 Final Four is this weekend in San Antonio, and for the second time ever, all four #1 seeds, including the Duke Blue Devils made their way to the Final Four, matching the 2008 Final Four, which was also held in San Antonio, as the only time the top seeds have made it to college basketball’s biggest stage since seeding began back in 1979. With that, there have been a lot of pundits, who have voiced their concern about the state of the sport, after a lack of upsets and drama in the year’s NCAA Tournament, citing NIL and the transfer portal, as the death for mid-major teams once they make it to the Big Dance. That claim is rather odd, considering we are just two NCAA Tournaments removed from FDU’s upset of #1 seed Purdue, and #15 Princeton, making it to the Sweet 16, which happened in the NIL and transfer portal era of the sport. Also that same year, many of the national pundits now complaining about the lack of upsets, were complaining about San Diego State and Florida Atlantic facing off in the Final Four, stating that the arrival of NIL and the transfer portal, had created too much parity within the sport. Sigh.
Earlier today, longtime national college basketball writer, Mike Decourcy of the Sporting News, joined the Mac & Bone Show on WFNZ, as Mike defended the state of the sport, after a chalky NCAA Tournament, he weighs in on what UNC needs to look for in the transfer portal, the Will Wade hire at NC State, and more.
